School Programs

We invite you to discover the Bumbershoot experience!

Through live theatre, students are encouraged to read, develop critical and creative thinking and be curious about the world around them. Our programs enhance and support classroom curriculum and provide invaluable skills that arts education gives our children and youth. Bumbershoot offers Schools, Teachers, and their students the opportunity to work with theatre professionals and enhance their learning experiences.

Bumbershoot collaborates with your school and teachers to design an in-school program that fits your learning objectives.  Engage students in a fun and innovative way, exploring areas of theatre, or other subjects by using drama techniques.  In- School Residencies can range in duration based on school needs and objectives.

We are excited to be able to offer the opportunity to visit us at Bumbershoot for a theatre experience.  A menu of programs were designed to support the Core Competencies and within these, the learning outcomes for each grade.  Using drama exercises, professional teaching artists work with students to explore the world of theatre! You may choose from our standard curriculum or work with us to design a custom program for your class.  Just ask! Part of our mission is to make theatre an integral part of the learning process. Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem are all characteristics that are attained through participation in this unique and educational project.

As teachers, observing Tracy with the students was invaluable. We were impressed with her willingness to restructure her program to suit our needs. Her energy and expertise were inspiring and she was always willing to share ideas and support us in developing our own skills as drama educators. She was always available to answer questions and to discuss best practices for drama instruction.

Jessica B. and Mel B. – George Pringle Elementary

“When I get to do drama, I feel so free. I can be anyone I want to be.”

Lauren, Grade 6

“I was so surprised and pleased to see all of my students completely engaged and working together. Using drama as a way of teaching is so valuable and can be integrated across the curriculum in so many ways.”

Catherine, Grade 4/5 Teacher

“The best part was getting to play family snapshots. We became spies, waiters, and even tightrope walkers, but really we could become anything!”

Nathan, Grade 2
